NEWTOWN, PA — The temporary field hospital at the Newtown Athletic Club that went up in early April as the coronavirus pandemic escalated has closed.
The temporary 300-bed hospital was set up by the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency on April 8.
Located in the club's sports training center, it was intended to be used as an overflow hospital in the event that area facilities became overwhelmed during a surge of coronavirus cases.

No patients were admitted, and the field hospital was packed up last week, NAC owner Jim Worthington confirmed.
"Recently the Coronavirus Field Hospital at our Sports Training Center was packed up and closed. We were pleased to offer our facilities to our county and its residents and most happy it was never used," Worthington said in a statement.
