PennLive.com reports the encounter happened when Weaver was assigned to investigate a protection-from-abuse order violation. Weaver responded Friday evening to the home of Robison's mother, Sherry Robison, after his ex-girlfriend, Laura Whitesel, reported that he was contacting her, authorities said.

According to the report, the two men were talking when Robison said he wanted to get a cigarette from his bedroom. Weaver followed him, and the two ended up in a mud room off the kitchen.

According to the arrest warrant obtained by PennLive.com, Robison then came back into the kitchen, put a cigarette lighter on the counter, pulled a gun from his pants and went back into the mudroom. Sherry Robison reportedly told officers she heard a pop and saw Weaver fall face down onto the floor.

Weaver is the 97th member of the Pennsylvania State Police to be killed in the line of duty.

According to information provided by state police, Weaver enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police last December and was assigned to the Patrol Unit at Troop G, Huntingdon.

Services for Weaver are scheduled for Thursday.
