NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown area will be drying out and cleaning up today after a night of heavy rain, flooding, and strong winds.

This morning, the Council Rock School District will be operating on a 2-hour delay as a result of the storm. Scheduled bus stop times will be 2 hours later than normal and there will be no AM Kindergarten, according to the district.

As of 6 a.m., the following roads remained closed in Upper Makefield Township:

  • 100 Thompson Mill Road to the Wrightstown line. According to PECO, the road will be closed for much of the day.
  • 93 Buckmanville Road (tree and wires down)
  • 118 Walker Road (tree and wires down)

"If you travel these roadways, please plan an alternate route," said police. "We hope that River Road will be open later this morning, but Mother Nature may have other plans. We know this is inconvenient, but it is for your safety. For those who flout the law, this is your warning. Get caught moving or going around a barricade, it'll be a very expensive day. Also, be careful as you drive around the township as there is a lot of debris still strewn across the roadways."

As of 11 p.m. Tuesday, the following roads remained closed due to flooding, fallen trees and power lines in Wrightstown Township.

  • Swamp Road between Mill Creek Road and the School Bus Depot
  • Mill Creek Road in the area of the Miller Quarry
