Newtown Quakers to Hear “Live from the Other Side of the Pacific” from Shumin Li, Quaker and Financial Manager

Newtown Quaker Meeting adult class will hear “Live from the Other Side of the Pacific: Financial Markets, Coronavirus, Trade Wars and More” from Meeting member Shumin Li at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the historic Newtown Friends Meetinghouse at 219 Court Street (http://www.newtownfriendsmeeting.org). Meeting for Worship in the manner of Friends will follow at 11 a.m. The public is invited.

Shumin Li returned recently to Newtown from Beijing, China, where he is Managing Director and Partner at Hony Capital, a leading investment management firm based in Beijing. He has been working remotely from the U.S. since February 2.

At Hony, Shumin is responsible for client solutions, overseas asset allocation and domestic securitization business. Previously, Shumin worked in the finance industry since 1998 at some of the leading financial institutions in the US, including Fannie Mae, Credit Suisse, UBS, and Mizuho.

Shumin grew up in China and moved to the US in 1994, studying economics at Indiana University and then earning a MA in economics at Brown University.

Shumin became interested in the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) when living in Washington D. C. and later joined Princeton Friends Meeting before becoming a member of Newtown Meeting in 2012.

Shumin currently lives in West Windsor, New Jersey with his wife, Lisa, and their children, Alexander and Oliver.

Newtown Friends Meeting, is open to the public, with Sunday School classes for children and adults at 9:45 a.m. and worship based on expectant silence “after the manner of Friends” at 11 a.m. Childcare is provided.
