NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The township will be switching to a new third party electric provider effective March 1.

The board of supervisors at its Feb. 22 meeting, voted to approve the switch from PECO Energy to 3Point Energy Solutions to reduce the overall expense to the township for electricity.

3Point Energy will provide electric service to the township for the next 60 months at a cost of just under six cents per kilowatt hour, which township manager Micah Lewis said is far below the current PECO rate of 9.5 cents per kilowatt hour.

The supervisors also approved the purchase of a $60,076 asphalt roller and trailer through the state’s Co-Stars program. It will be paid for out of the township’s Highway Aid Fund.

With the purchase, the township now has a milling machine, an asphalt recycling machine and a crack sealer to make permanent patch repairs to the township’s roadways.

Under new business, supervisor Elen Snyder proposed setting aside at least half of the township’s remaining American Rescue Fund dollars for the fire services.

“We have given some to police and to other services, but we have not given any to the fire services,” said Snyder. “I know we raised taxes a mill for them, but the truth is they need more help than that. And I’d like to see a portion of those funds given to the fire services for many reasons - training, equipment and making sure we have our fire trucks manned 24-7 and that our homes and businesses are covered.”

The township has a little less than $1 million remaining to allocate of the federal grant dollars.

In other business, the supervisors voted unanimously to grant Mish Realty approval for a pair of wall mounted signs at its new office at 123 North Sycamore Street.

Co-owned and operated by mother-son duo Judy and John Mish, the agency brings to Newtown more than 40 years of combined experience in residential sales and management throughout Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

After years of success as a team at Remax Centre in Jamison, Judy and John decided to branch out and open their own agency. Their first priority, said Judy, will be personalized customer service.

Judy, who has been a realtor for more than 30 years, is the agent/owner and her son, John, is the broker of record and co-owner.

“We’re going to be seeing a lot more of these smaller offices in the future that are going to be giving more personalized service,” predicted Judy.
