Mark your calendars. It's going to be a busy summer in and around Newtown.

NEWTOWN, Pa. — There’s a lot going on in and around Newtown this summer. So mark your calendars now so you don’t miss a beat.
This weekend, the Newtown Business Association brings Welcome Day back to town. The event takes place on Sunday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sycamore Street between Jefferson Street and Durham Road.
Welcome Day will feature more than 100 craft and business vendors, a food court spotlighting Sycamore Street, an amazing balloon master, lots of free entertainment on two festival stages, a Cornhole Tournament and lots and lots of fun.

A series of "Movies in the Park" continue on Wednesday, June 29 with “Jungle Cruise” and Wednesday, July 13 with “Matilda.” There is no rain dates. The movies are held outdoors at Linton Memorial Park at Penn and Lincoln in Newtown Borough and are presented by the Newtown Borough Recreation Board.
And speaking of movies, the Newtown Theatre presents a series of free summer children’s movies on Wednesday mornings in July and August. Movies roll at 10 a.m. with a special sensory-friendly screening at 1 p.m. No reservations or tickets are required for these free screenings. Seating is first come, first served and doors open one hour before show time.

This year’s summer lineup includes: “Madagascar” on July 6 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening; “Kung Fu Panda” on July 20 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening; “Happy Feet” on July 27 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening; “Paddington 2” on Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening; “Hugo” on Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening; and “How to Train Your Dragon” on Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. with a 1 p.m. sensory friendly screening.
During the sensory friendly screenings, the house lights will be turned up slightly and the movie sound turned down slightly. These screenings are a special opportunity for individuals on the autism spectrum and others to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment. For all you batman fans out there, the theatre will be screening 1966’s “Batman: The Movie” in all its campy glory on Friday, July 15. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the movie will start at 8 p.m.
In the hour leading up to the movie, guests will enjoy one complimentary drink (beer, wine, canned cocktail, or a special Batman-themed cocktail), free popcorn, a series of riddles, a photo booth, Batman decorations, special contests and prizes.
Based on the iconic 1960s television series, “Batman: The Movie” features Adam West, Burt Ward, Lee Meriwether, Cesar Romero, Burgess Meredith, and more. The movie follows the Dynamic Duo as they try to stop four supervillains who plan to hold the world for ransom with the help of a secret invention that instantly dehydrates people. It’s a movie so bad it’s good.
Online tickets are $20 for the public and $15 for theatre members and are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com. If available, tickets will be sold at the door for $25. All seating is general admission.
A new addition to the summer schedule this year is “Music on State Street” sponsored by the Newtown Historic Association and the Newtown Experience Committee. Evening concerts will take place in the heart of the State Street business district on Tuesday evenings from July 12 through August 30. Music will be from 6 to 8 p.m. in front of 16 S. State Street. There is no rain date.
In late August, the Newtown Business Association will be steering onto State Street with an Open Air Car Show. The event, traditionally held in July, will take place on August 28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with cars lining the historic State Street business district. The rain date is Sept. 11.
And coming up in September is the annual Newtown Beerfest sponsored by the Newtown Fire Association. The beer will again be flowing on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Stocking Works. There is no rain date. To reserve, visit www.newtownbeerfest.com.
