Organic Nail Spa Opens in Newtown Borough

Live the good life with an organic pedicure at Nature's Care on South State Street.

There is a new neighbor in town and it arrived just in time for the toe-baring season.  Niki Chi, a veteran nail technician with more than 13 years of experience, has opened up a new nail spa in Newtown Borough. And she's not offering any old manicure -- her luxurious treatments are totally organic.

Nature’s Care is a full-service, luxurious, nail spa located on the second floor loft of the well-established and rustically-beautiful Faces Hair Design (252 S. State St., Newtown).

Nature’s Care offers services and treatments that not only pamper you to the core, but focus on the natural and holistic health of your hands and feet.  In using only organic and vegan ingredients, Niki helps her clients achieve healthy, vibrant nails without the use of the harsh chemicals found at your typical nail salon.

Okay, I know what you are thinking: “Why does my mani/pedi need to be organic, and holistic?”

During my extensive and laborious (ha ha!) research on this topic, I asked Niki what sets organic nail care apart from the competition.  “Our nails are actually more porous than our skin and are therefore more susceptible to the formaldehyde and paraben that is found in standard nail polish and cosmetics," Niki told me.  She said both of these chemicals contribute to the drying out of the nails and cuticles, which leads to peeling, cracking, and breaking.

Since Nature’s Care is concerned with the overall health of the nails, the damage done by the additives and preservatives of said chemicals is exactly what Niki has set out to prevent or reverse.

At Nature’s Care, the focus is on making -- and keeping -- your nails, hands and feet healthy, so Niki doesn't use these abrasive preservatives. Instead, she uses amazing organic and vegan products created by Sparitual. Everything from the mandarin orange foot soaking tonic to the salt scrub and lotions used for the luxurious massages, right down to the nail color, is all made from ingredients that are safe for people, other animals, and for the environment.

And you will not be sacrificing the quality or longevity of your manicure or pedicure.  Most clients find that the services last as long, if not longer, than the services of a typical nail salon.

If the health of your nails isn’t proof enough that we should choose organic for our spa services, we should look no further than the environmental implications.

“People don’t realize that the chemicals that we put on ourselves, in the form of cosmetics, creams, and toiletries, eventually return to the earth through the water.  Our choices as consumers affect all other beings in the world, from children to marine life and everywhere in between,” says Niki.

So, there you have it. Not only are we achieving personal health benefits from a delicious organic and vegan manicure and pedicure, but we are also making better choices for the health of our planet. As a belated recognition of Earth Day, why not get out your flip flops and pamper your tootsies for the fair weather?

Prices range from the "effortless mani" ($20) to the "luxe pedicure" ($55) with various options in between.

Niki is available for services at her new location every day of the week, including weekday nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Nature’s Care also offers waxing and eyelash services.  Appointments are recommended and can be made by email, telephone, or even text.
