Sights And Sounds Of Market Day Coming To Newtown Borough

The fall celebration, a fundraiser for the Newtown Historic Association, offers a glimpse into colonial America.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The sights and sounds of Market Day are coming to the streets of Newtown this weekend.

The beloved annual tradition takes place on Saturday, October 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the streets in and around the Half-Moon Inn and on Court Street, Mercer Street, and Centre Avenue in historic Newtown Borough.

The fall celebration, a fundraiser for the Newtown Historic Association, offers a glimpse into colonial America with street performers, artisans, craftspeople, puppet shows, a Revolutionary War encampment and hands-on candle-making in the Boone Garden.

Throughout the day visitors can browse through more than 70 craft and artisan booths lining the streets while listening to the Dockside Band performing at the Callahan Research Center on Mercer Street and Bill Dooley in front of the Court Inn.

“Vendors will be selling everything from fine art painting to pottery to all kinds of handmade crafts and vintage things,” said Amy Smith who is helping to organize this year’s event. “There’s historic photography and all kinds of handmade items.”

Also taking place throughout the day will be hayrides by Hutch Hamilton from A Better Way Farm, puppet shows and candle making at the Boone Garden, demonstrations by the Newtown Quilters, scarecrow making at Patriots Park, chair caning, and a Revolutionary War encampment behind the Court Inn.

The Court Inn, the headquarters of the Newtown Historic Association, willl also be open for public tours. And the Daughters of the American Revolution will be raffling off a painting to raise money for Newtown’s observance of the nation’s 250th birthday in 2026.

Food vendors and food trucks will be located throughout the event offering Goodnoe ice cream, Vietnamese food, golden brown donuts fresh from the fryer, slow smoked barbecue, artisan wood fired pizza, and classic cuisine from Relic on State.

“It’s going to be a great time for everyone,” said Smith. “The whole family can come and enjoy. There will be something for everyone.”
