Threat Closes Bucks County Community College Wednesday

A unspecified threat closed the Newtown Campus of Bucks County Community College Wednesday.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A unspecified threat closed the Newtown Campus of Bucks County Community College Wednesday. The threat came into police Tuesday afternoon in the form of a tip through an anonymous third party, Newtown Township Police said.

The threat "specifically targeted" Bucks County Community College on Sept. 26. No further details on the threat were released, however, police said it has not yet been substantiated. An investigation is underway by detectives to assess its credibility and identify the source of the information.

Classes on the Newtown campus were canceled Wednesday "out of an abundance of caution." Evening classes have also been canceled, the college announced around 3 p.m.

"An update on Thursday's status will follow. Other campuses are operating on normal schedules," the college said via Facebook.

"The investigation will remain a top priority so that we can continue to keep the students of our community safe," Newtown Township Police said in a statement.

College President Stephanie Shanblatt released the following statement:

“We have heard from a number of concerned students, staff, and parents looking for information and assurances. Our first and ongoing priorities are working with Newtown Township Police as they conduct their investigation, and ensuring that our campus community is safe. Until more information becomes available, we ask for your patience and offer our assurances that we are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of members of the College community.”
