Two Council Rock North students receive GNEC awaards

The Greater Newtown Exchange Club honors a Council Rock Nort ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Student and a Student of the Month

Matthew Prell is The Greater Newtown Exchange Club’s (GNEC’s) ACE student for April 2018. Matthew lives in Newtown, attends Council Rock North and is planning to attend Bucks County Community College in the fall where he plans to study creative writing. The ACE (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award recognizes high school students like Matthew who have had to overcome physical, emotional, or social obstacles to become eligible for high school graduation. This positive program has two key objectives. First, to encourage students to overcome their hardships and get on track toward a high school diploma. Second, to recognize those students whose accomplishments are often overlooked. This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard work and perseverance really do pay.

James Weir was a recent recipient of GNEC’s Student of the Month Award. James is a Council Rock North graduating student who has been active in debate, track, and student government all four years of high school. He has assisted at ancestry fairs and the yearly renaissance fair. He also tutors young kids through high school peers at Richboro Elementary. James scored within the top 1% of SAT scores in the nation. He wants to improve and innovate something in technology, perhaps in the area of artificial intelligence. James enjoys math and computer programming and looks forward to majoring in computer science in college. He has been accepted at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is awaiting word from some other schools including ones he has been wait-listed at.

The Greater Newtown Exchange Club is a Bucks County service club dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and family services. For information, call 215-469-1466 or check our Facebook page.
