Flying Watermelons at PA High School Lead To Investigation
"It is extremely fortunate no one was injured," the principal said, adding the district does not condone senior pranks.
A watermelon tossed Friday as part of a senior prank at Council Rock South High School led to a barrage of thrown fruit and ended with a river of broken rinds, slimy seeds and sticky juice flowing through the library. Then came this message from the principal: Somebody’s in trouble.
Fun is fun, but Principal Albert R. Funk said this little stunt went too far. Administrators and security officials at Council Rock are investigating the incident, he said in a letter to parents.
The watermelon was tossed during a class transition and the prank “grew unwieldy” when students started throwing the fruit in the library lobby, Funk said in the letter.

Seniors were to be addressed during an assembly at 9th period, school officials said.

The prank caused “a major disruption” in the school and left behind a mess, Funk said.
“Even worse, this display occurred while our 8th graders from the middle schools were in the auditorium during a visitation. This is certainly not how we wish to represent ourselves to incoming students or represent ourselves, in general, for that matter,” Funk said.
Disciplinary consequences will be administered as deemed necessary, the principal said.
School officials did not immediately return a request for comment from Patch.
