Walking Tour To Explore Historic Properties At Tyler State Park

The tour will highlight the historic properties and farmhouses scattered throughout the Tyler State Park grounds.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Historic Association will hold its annual self-guided walking tour of Tyler Park beginning at 10 a.m. at the Boathouse Pavilion on Saturday, October 8.

The tour will highlight the historic properties and farmhouses scattered throughout the Tyler State Park grounds.

As part of this ticketed event, representatives from both the Newtown Historic Association and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will be on hand to provide a general overview and answer questions at the beginning of the day.

All registrants will receive an informative Tyler Park historical book. This limited-edition, 100-page book contains rare photographs and detailed descriptions of the many historic properties and farmhouses, including the construction of the Tyler mansion, and how they were acquired by the Tyler family in the early 1900s.

The Newtown Historic Association, Inc. (NHA) was incorporated in 1964 as a nonprofit organization whose mission is to stimulate interest in, preserve, celebrate and share the historic significance of both Newtown Borough and Township. The NHA offers annual membership to any individual, family or business interested in supporting these goals, with no restriction on place of residence. The NHA holds an extensive collection of archival manuscripts, books, newspapers, photographs, clothing, furniture and objects directly related to Newtown’s history.

The NHA sponsors several annual events in Newtown, including Market Day (October) and the Open House Tour (December), as well as an historic lecture series and walking tours for student groups.
