WATCH: PVT Honored On House Floor For For Free Meals In Shutdown

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick took to the house floor to recognize Bucks County's Pineville Tavern, and called for an end to the shutdown.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — A Bucks County business was recognized on the floor of the House of Representatives for providing free meals to furloughed federal workers who are currently unpaid due to the government shutdown.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick praised the local tavern for its generosity in offering free chicken dinners to any government worker who is not being paid during the shutdown, which started on Dec. 22, 2018.

"At this time of so much unneeded uncertainty for federal workers, the charity of the Pineville Tavern is deeply appreciated by our community," Fitzpatrick said in his statement. During his statement, he displayed a large photograph of the business, which is located off Rt. 413 in Pineville.

Fitzpatrick also called for lawmakers to put an end to the shutdown, which is due to an impasse over funding for a wall along the country's southern border.

"Mr. Speaker, I call on my colleagues to put aside our differences, fund our government, and get our federal employees back to work," Fitzpatrick said.

The Pineville Tavern announced last week it would provide free chicken dinners to federal workers until the shutdown is resolved.

The offer is good for any U.S. employee and their immediate family every night of the week, and federal employees can take advantage of this offer as often as they'd like, according to restaurant representatives.

"We've been watching the news every day since this political game of chicken began on December 22, 2018, and we just can't sit back and watch anymore," Chef Drew Abruzzese said when announcing the offer.
