NEWTOWN, PA — Newtown’s "street fair with flair" returns on Sunday, June 11 with a day packed with family fun, food and live entertainment.

“Newtown Welcome Day,” presented by Capital Health and organized by the Newtown Business Association, will unfold along Sycamore Street between Jefferson Street and Durham Road from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine.

“Newtown Welcome Day is a perfect way to support your local businesses. It’s also a great way to discover and rediscover what Newtown has to offer,” said Fred Poritsky of FZP Digital, who is co-chairing the event with Leah Patterson (Playa Bowls Newtown) and Heather DiPrato (Newtown
Neighbors and Yardley Living).

Throughout the day, visitors will also find lots of fun activities to do, a banquet of food from local eateries and vendors and two stages of live, nonstop entertainment.

“We have a lot of musical acts this year - a mix of professional and local talent,” said Poritsky.

This year’s entertainment schedule will showcase everything from Motown, island music and Broadway show tunes to rock and roll classics and acoustic pop with featured performances by Action Karate, the Newtown School of Rock and BC Discoveries.

“We have great entertainment,” said Poritsky. “For the most part it’s all professional entertainers known throughout the Philadelphia area.”

New this year will be a "Behind Closed Doors" trailer presented by the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth and the Council Rock Education Foundation. The trailer, on loan for the day from the Bensalem Police Department, is a realistic re-creation of a teenager's bedroom designed to help educate parents about the warning signs of drug abuse.

In addition, Capital Health will be bringing its Advanced Simulation Training Center to Welcome Day. The mobile simulation laboratory will be providing health education and wellness screenings to the public.

Adding to the mix will be Best Darn Kettle Korn, Playa Bowls, a funnel cake vendor and lots more.

“It’s going to be a beautiful day for families to spend together,” said Poritsky. “We have a lot to offer in Newtown. It’s all about the 18940. It’s all about local - shopping local, buying local and keeping it local.”
