Wrightstown To Take Another Look At 4-Way -Stop Intersection
The supervisors will ask its engineering firm to take a look at ways to enhance safety at Swamp and Worthington Mill.

WRIGHTSTOWN, PA — The board of supervisors will ask its engineering firm to take a look at ways to enhance safety at the four-way stop at Swamp and Worthington Mill roads.
The board decided after hearing from a motorist who expressed concerns about the intersection in a letter and wanted to know whether a traffic signal could be considered.
In Pennsylvania, before a signal can be considered, a municipality must prove that a condition exists that justifies signalization. It does that through accident reports, which in the case of Swamp and Worthington Mill, do not justify the upgrade.

According to Interim manager Gregg Schuster, over the past three years police have logged eight incidents at the intersection, which he said “is not excessive. And if you go through each incident, a bunch of those have nothing to do with the configuration of the intersection” including rear-end crashes and one car that went off the road and struck a tree.
“I’m not an engineer, but just looking at this it doesn’t seem like it would meet the warrants for having a signal there,” he told the supervisors.

After hearing from the interim manager, Chairman Chester Pognowski said he doesn’t see a need to pursue a traffic signal at the intersection “based on what has been shared.
“The only thing I would say is do we want to ask our engineer to take a look at the intersection just to back up the concept that there’s no need for a traffic light.”
Supervisor Jane Magne agreed, but asked that the firm take a look “at remarking some areas” to enhance safety at the intersection.
