Major construction work begins this month on Markley Street, a portion of which will be closed until fall 2022.
NORRISTOWN, PA — A major $23 million construction project will begin this month on Markley Street in Norristown, a portion of which will be closed until fall 2022.
Extensive renovations will focus on the intersections between Main Street and Elm Street, including a widening of Markley Street, replacement of two bridges, construction of new sidewalks, installation of pedestrian streetlights and trees, new ADA curb ramps, Intelligent Transportation system components, and more.
It's part of the large project which has been underway since 2015 to improve safety and travel conditions along a two-mile stretch of Markley in Norristown.

Markley Street — which is Route 202 south — will be closed to northbound motorists between Main and Elm streets from Jan. 27 until some time in the fall of 2022, officials estimate. Motorists will be detoured on DeKalkb Street to Johnson Highway. Northbound motorists going over the Dannehower Bridge will be required to turn to either the east or west on Main Street after crossing.
Southbound traffic in this area will be restricted to two lanes for the duration of the work.
