PENNSYLVANIA — Sports gambling was booming this weekend during Super Bowl 54 between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco Giants, and bettors won big in Pennsylvania.
A total of $30.7 million in wagers were placed in the state on the Super Bowl this weekend, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Notably, that resulted in payouts of just over $34 million, meaning that operators lost about $3.3 million in revenue all told.

Sports gamblers had many more opportunities to gamble this weekend than they have in past years. Patrons could choose from a dozen different retail locations around the state, as well as eight different online wagering sites. Last year, just six retail outlets in Pennsylvania offered the service.
The vast majority of the $30.7 million — $24 million, in fact — was wagered online, the Gaming Control Board said.

That is from a near-doubling in traffic to online sports wagering sites from the average NFL Sunday. Nearly 200,000 guests logged onto these sites on Sunday, as compared to the average of 100,000 during a regular season NFL game this year.
The Missouri-based Kansas City Chiefs ultimately completed an amazing comeback and defeated the San Francisco Giants, 31-20.
