Former Eagles quarterback Nick Foles has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to reports that emerged Monday. The deal will be finalized when free agency officially opens up on Wednesday afternoon.

The contract is for four years and $88 million, a source told the Associated Press. It's the priciest contract ever handed out in Jaguars history.

Rumors have connected the Super Bowl MVP and Philadelphia legend to Jacksonville for weeks, and the connection has seemed logical for months, even dating back to last season.

Between Carson Wentz and Foles, the Eagles had one too many star quarterbacks, and the Jaguars struggled to put together a competitive team behind Blake Bortles' below average 45.8 quarterback rating in 2018. Foles turned in a 67.6, putting him amongst the league's top echelon of passers.

Foles' tenure in Philadelphia came to an official end last month when the Eagles announced they would allow Foles to become a free agent. Then it was just a matter of who would get his services.

Foles' deal isn't quite as much as the Eagles shelled out to their own quaterbacks in the past, though the per-year price is very favorable for Foles. Back in 2002, the team gave Donovan McNabb a 12-year, $115 million deal. In 2011, Michael Vick landed a six-year deal that could have been worth up to $100 million.

Two years ago it would have seemed impossible that Foles' name would be mentioned in the same breath as that pair, but two years have passed, Foles is a world champion and superstar, and he's finally going to be paid like one.

From an Eagles perspective, it's a positive twist that they won't have to face Foles regularly, given that Jacksonville is in the AFC. Two teams that could have possibly been fits for Foles, the Washington Redskins and New York Giants, are in the Eagles division. It was possible that Foles could have played against the Birds twice a year for the forseeable future.

Instead he'll head to Jacksonville, who plan to move on from Bortles and give the reins over to Foles.

On Monday, Foles announced a new sponsorship with sportswear company Lululemon. He'll serve as a brand ambassador.

The 2019 NFL free agency period officially begins at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
