West Norriton Officer Needs Assistance

West Norriton Officer Mike Hougnon, 44, recently suffered a brain aneurysm and is currently hospitalized at Thomas Jefferson University Neuroscience Hospital in Philadelphia. Mike has undergone a series of surgeries during the last 12 days and his recovery is expected to take several months.

Mike has worked for the West Norriton Police Department for the past seven years starting in July 2005. Before that, Mike worked for the Norristown Police Department from 1996 to 2005. Mike joined the Central Montgomery County SWAT team in 2006. He is one of the entry operators and is trained in explosive breaching. Mike is also member of the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Municipal Drug Task Force. 

His military career began in 1986 when he joined the U.S. Army and served in the infantry in a Ranger training brigade at Fort Benning, Ga. Mike served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1989 to 1996 and again from 1998 to the present. He trained on weekends at the drill sergeant school and graduated in 2000. From 2000 to March 2011, he was a drill instructor. Mike and a task force were deployed to Afghanistan in March of 2011 until April 2012.

Mike has been married for 17 years to his wife Rhonda, They have two children. Mike is an avid fitness fanatic. He has participated in numerous triathlons, marathons, half-marathons and long distance bike races. Mike has a love of all sports especially the Phillies and the other hometown teams. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree at Saint Joseph’s University.
