MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — An anonymous donor has given $10,000 to help kickstart the disaster recovery efforts in Montgomery County in the wake of the remnants of Hurricane Ida, officials announced this week.

The donation comes as county officials launched the Montco Emergency Disaster Relief Fund, which aims to marshal support from the general public for those hardest hit by the storm. While government and nonprofit relief programs are underway, "additional funds are needed now" to help house and feed those who lost their homes, vehicles, and possessions.

“Anyone who has the ability to give is encouraged to do so to support our most vulnerable residents," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said. "This fund will deliver vital financial support to help our communities recover from the impacts of Ida."

Arkoosh added that she hoped the $10,000 donation inspired others.

Funds will be used to purchase a wide variety of items, ranging from housing, food, and gas, to basics like bedding, towels, and clothing.

The fund will support the work ongoing at the local, county, state, and federal level to help southeastern Pennsylvania rebuild. At least $117 million in damage was incurred to Pennsylvania's public infrastructure during Ida.

President Biden issued a Major Disaster Declaration in Pennsylvania, which means that FEMA can provide assistance directly to individuals who were impacted. Details on that are available here.
