MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Bill Cosby's lawyers are reportedly attempting a use a new method to get their client out of jail: fear of the coronavirus outbreak hitting Montgomery County SCI Phoenix.

Attorneys of Cosby, 82, want him to be moved to house arrest, and are planning to file a petition in the Pennsylvania Superior Court to that effect this week, according to Page Six.

"We believe it is only a matter of time before Mr. Cosby’s prison likely falls victim to the virus, such a confined space is the perfect place for a virus to spread rapidly, it is hazardous to the prison staff and vulnerable inmates," Cosby's spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, told Page Six.

Cosby was convicted in a 2018 retrial of drugging and molesting a woman inside his Cheltenham home, and sentenced to three to 10 years behind bars.

Cosby's lawyers have filed countless appeals over the years, first to have the criminal case against him dismissed, and then to get him out of jail following conviction, failing each time.

Cosby's public statements in the years since have ranged from claiming he's a "political prisoner" to more recently stating that Harvey Weinstein did not receive a fair trial.

No documents have yet been filed in Pennsylvania Superior Court regarding the latest petition.
