Children's Author Stephen R. Swinburne Visits Norristown Library

Swinburne's book "Whose Shoes? A Shoe for Every Job" was chosen for Pennsylvania's One Book, Every Young Child program.

Whose Shoes? A Shoe for Every Job by Stephen R. Swinburne has been chosen as the 2011 Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child title. The book explores various occupations through simple text and colorful photographs.

For the sixth consecutive year, the One Book, Every Young Child program will highlight the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers ages 3 to 6.

As part of the One Book program, four Montgomery County libraries will have a visit from the author, who will sign copies of his book where available.

Upper Merion Township Library will host Swinburne on April 5 at 7 p.m., and the author will visit on April 6 at 10 a.m., followed by Narberth Community Library at 12:30 p.m. and the Union Library of Hatboro at 7 p.m.

Other county libraries will develop storytimes around Whose Shoes, incorporating the book's traveling trunk filled with manipulatives.

Previous year's books selected for the Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child program include:

  • 2010 Book Selection: What a Treasure! by Jane and Will Hillenbrand.
  • 2009 Book Selection: If You Were a Penguin by Wendell and Florence Minor.
  • 2008 Book Selection: Up, Down, and Around by author Katherine Ayres and illustrator Nadine Bernard Westcott.
  • 2007 Book Selection: A Splendid Friend, Indeed by author and illustrator Suzanne Bloom.
  • 2006 Book Selection: Inside Mouse, Outside Mouse by author and illustrator Lindsay Barrett George.
