Deputy Sheriffs Sought In Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is seeking individuals interested in becoming a deputy sheriff, they announced on their Facebook page on Wednesday.

They prefer individuals that have completed their ACT 120 training, but will consider all applicants.

  • Our courts division is responsible for keeping hundreds of daily visitors to the courthouse and employees safe and secure.
  • Our civil division serves approximately 3,000 court documents to citizens per month.
  • Our warrants division finds and arrests defendants with active domestic relations, DUI and criminal warrants.
  • Our K9 unit helps to locate drugs and hazardous materials, while assisting other units.
  • Our nationally ranked bomb unit is responsible for response and recovery of military ordnance and suspicious packages.
  • Our CERT team assists in controlling civil disturbances.
  • Our transportation and detention division is responsible for transporting and detaining hundreds of defendants per month.
  • Our motorcycle unit provides an escort to dignitary convoys, funeral processions, and participates in community events.
  • Our bicycle patrol unit patrols the courthouse and surrounding areas, and takes part in community events.
  • The starting salary for a deputy sheriff is $35,544. Benefits include a generous health and retirement benefits package, a Monday through Friday work week, various daytime shifts, and opportunities to transfer to other divisions according to time on the job and the needs of the department.
  • Requirements of employment as a deputy sheriff:
  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and applied for citizenship a minimum of one year ago.
  • You must be 21 years of age (there is no maximum age).
  • You must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
  • You must be a Montgomery County resident for two years prior to hire.
  • Candidates who possess ACT 120 training are required to complete a two-week MCSO paid training at Penn State and a 48-hour online training course, to receive state certification. Candidates without ACT 120 training will be required to attend a 19-week training program at Penn State University.
  • You are required to be on call one to two weeks per year.
  • You must complete the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance forms, if given an offer of employment.
