Montgomery County, PA — Officials in Montgomery County are getting creative in how to encourage more residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

There's been testimonials from everyone from Gov. Tom Wolf to Elmwood Zoo animals to Gritty. Now, vaccine proponents are turning to free meat.

All individuals who take part in either of two upcoming vaccine clinics in Montgomery County will be entered into a drawing to win free meat for a year.

The first clinic will be held on Friday, Aug. 6 at the Montgomery County Community College Advanced Technology Center in Blue Bell from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The second is coming up on Friday, Aug. 20, at the college's Pottstown campus, in the South Hall Community Room.

The meat is being offered by JBS Meats, which has a packing plant in Souderton. The event is also cosponsored by the county, the college, and Giant Food Stores.

Authorities say a lack of vaccinations is behind the spread of new COVID-19 cases due to the more contagious delta variant.
