MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — After just eight months, former Pennsylvania attorney general Kathleen Kane has gotten out of prison early, according to court documents and media reports. Once a rising star in the Democratic party, Kane left Montgomery County Correctional Facility Wednesday after being sentenced to 10 to 23 months behind bars on perjury and related counts.

Kane, 53, was let out two months early as a credit for good behavior, NBC10 reports.

Kane was originally sentenced all the way back in 2016 after she leaked information about a grand jury probe in an attempt to embarass a rival, leading to a lengthy and highly publicized controversy.

A string of appeals delayed her incarceration while she remained free on bail until Nov. 2018, when she first reported to jail.

When confronted by reporters outside of jail on Wednesday morning, she said only that she was "grateful" to be free. It's not clear what the next move for her will be. The Scranton native's lawyers told PennLivethat she was looking forward to spending time with her family.
