Man Shot Dead In Front Of His Montco Home Monday Morning: DA

The victim's nephew had just come inside bleeding from a fistfight when he went outside to investigate, police said.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A Pottstown man was shot dead near his home on Monday morning after going out to confront the bad who had just been in a fistfight with his nephew, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.

The incident occurred at around 8:20 a.m. on Sept. 23 on the first block of Scott Street.

That morning, Armani Cortez Rhedrick, 20, became involved in a physical altercation with Rayshawn McKay, who lives nearby.

The fight left McKay bleeding from his nose and mouth. He went inside to his home and told his uncle, Otis Harris, 31, what had happened, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

As McKay went inside, he heard someone say "get the gun," but he did not seen anyone except Rhedrick on the scene.

Harris went outside, and Rhedrick shot him three times with a shotgun, authorities said.

Rhedrick was then seen leaving the scene in a silver Hyundai, with the gun wrapped in a blanket, according to police.

Nearby, Barth Elementary School was placed on lockdown, as the incident occurred as children were arriving at school.

Rhedrick has been arrested and charged with first degree murder, third degree murder, and possessing an instrument of crime. No bail is offered for that charge and he was remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 7.
