Montco Distributes $25 Million To Prevent Evictions Amid Delta
A county judge has also ordered evictions to freeze through at least early October with the virus continuing to spread locally.
NORRISTOWN, PA — With the delta virus continuing to spread in Montgomery County and around the region, officials have ordered a stay on all eviction proceedings until at least early October. They've also distributed some $25 million in aid to renters suffering because of the pandemic, in an effort to keep people in their homes.
The eviction stay was an administration order given by Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Thomas M. DelRicci, in an effort to give individuals more time to get assistance together before payment was due. The stay is in effect for 30 days, starting Sept. 3.
"We thank the Courts for their quick work to intercede and protect vulnerable rental households in Montco,” Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said. "Our message to families is that help is available, and we urge them to apply for rent and utility assistance if they have been negatively impacted by COVID-19."
