Montgomery Co. Proposes $428 Million Budget With No Tax Increase

Montgomery County has proposed a $428.4 million budget for 2020 which would include no tax increases, they announced this week.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County has proposed a $428.4 million budget for 2020 which would include no tax increases, they announced this week.

The announcement was made at the County Board of Commissioners meeting that was held on Thursday morning.

Commissioners noted that if approved, the budget would mark the third consecutive year that there is no tax increase.

Exactly half of the budget comes from real estate taxes, with another 36 percent from grants and 14 percent from county departmental earnings.

According to statistics quoted in the budget, Montgomery County's real estate millage rate — the tax rate used to calculate local property taxes — is substantially lower than all neighboring suburban counties. Montgomery's 3.8 rate is below Chester's 4.3, Delaware's 5.6, and Bucks' 24.4.

Public hearings on the budget will be held on Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Commissioners' boardroom on the 8th floor of One Montgomery Plaza.

The budget is scheduled to be adopted at the County Commissioner's meeting on Dec. 12.
