Norristown Continues Traffic Calming Work
Residents can request speed humps from the municipality on their street.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Norrisown is continuing work to reduce traffic congestion and accidents in the area as growth and rapid redevelopment projects continue.
Residents can now petition the municipality to install removable speed humps on their streets, if the street is frequently the site of speeders, drag racing, or other dangerous traffic activities.
The petition must include signatures from at least 75 percent of the residents on the impacted block. The ensuing review process involves a review of the site by council, and collaboration with the police chief on the nature of the area.

All of the block's residents must be able to vote on the final plan, and it must pass with a 75 percent majority.
Blocks which receive speed bumps must be residential blocks least 1,000 feet long with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less. It also must be owned by the municipality.

Speed humps cost about $2,500 each, and can be removed by the Public Works department in case of inclement weather or street cleaning.
