The high school students, who are in the JROTC, leaped into action when they saw two elderly individuals trapped inside a flipped car.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Two Norristown Area High School seniors are being hailed as heroes after rescuing an elderly couple who were trapped inside their car after an accident Tuesday afternoon, the high school said.

Brendan Fitzpatrick and Michael Smith are both members of the high school's Eagle Battalion JROTC.

They happened to be nearby when the elderly couple lost control of their car and it flipped over near Whitehall Road, according to the school.

And their heroism is not going unnoticed.

Norristown's municipal Facebook page called the pair "Good Samaritans" for their work.

"A big shot out to the two local heroes from Norristown Area School District for their role in assisting an elderly couple during an accident," they wrote Wednesday.

In addition, Sergeant First Class (retired) Gene Chieffo will submit the two students for the Medal of Heroism, a US Army Cadet Command Award, the high school said.

The students will be recognized during a ceremony at the school.
