Open House To Discuss Main St, 202 Reconstruction In Norristown

A massive project to reconstruct Main Street, Markley Street, and improve the nearby area will get underway this fall.

NORRISTOWN, PA — An open house event will be held to address the massive reconstruction project planned on U.S. 202 South and Main Street in Norristown.

The project involves a widening and rebuilding of U.S. 202's four south lanes between Main and Marshall streets, a replacement of two existing bridges on 202 over Stony Creek with a single bridge, and more.

Construction will begin this fall and is expected to be completed in late 2023.

The open house meeting will include displays outlining the project which residents can view. There will also be members of PennDOT's design team on hand to discuss the project as well.

The event will be held at the Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy cafeteria on Oct. 10 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Some other aspects of the project:

  • Repairs to stone arch bridge on 202 over Stony Creek
  • New sidewalk to 202 to link Main and Elm SEPTA stations
  • Widen Main Street between Water and Barbadoes streets
  • Install brick pavers, streetlights, and trees on Main Street between Barbadoes and Water streets
  • Improve railroad crossings on Main and Marshall
  • Install Intelligent Transportation Systems technology on 202 and DeKalb Pike
  • Replace traffic signals on 202, Main, Elm, and Marshall
  • Install ADA curb ramps at all intersections with push buttons, countdown signals, and crosswalks

The project is being funded with 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds.

Eisenhower is located on 1601 Markley Street.
