10 PA Counties Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Forecasters are warning of imminent severe weather in the region.

PENNSYLVANIA — A severe thunderstorm watch is in place for 10 counties in Pennsylvania as a powerful front approaches the region, the National Weather Service said Monday afternoon.

The impacted counties include Bucks, Chester, Philadelphia, Delaware, Montgomery, Lehigh, Berks, Northampton, Carbon, and Monroe.

The watch is in place until 8 p.m.

A watch is put in place when "severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area," the National Weather Service says. "Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued."

A stormy start to the week is in store in eastern Pennsylvania, with damaging winds and severe thunderstorms set to hit the region. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible, forecasters said.

While patchy fog during Monday commuting hours is expected to improve through the mid/late morning, the afternoon should usher in possible showers and severe thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

“Numerous severe storms are possible this afternoon,” the National Weather Service Mount Holly station tweeted Monday morning. “Damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat, with large hail and isolated tornadoes also possible.”

As of 6:25 a.m. on Monday, all eastern Pennsylvania counties were under a hazardous weather outlook, citing severe thunderstorms possible later in the day.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Rob Richards said the cold front associated with this storm will dig across the Eastern states on Monday. The timing of the most potent storms will be from Monday afternoon through Monday evening, according to forecasters with Accuweather.

The most likely time for severe weather will be from 1 to 8 p.m. as a cold front moves through the region, the National Weather Service said. The storms should ramp up between 3 and 5 p.m. before moving eastward toward the coast int he early evening.

Temperatures should remain in the near 80s this morning with a low of 56. The rest of the week should see mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the 70s, the National Weather Service said.

Showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Some of the storms could be severe. Low around 57. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunny, with a high near 76. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 72. Northwest wind around 10 mph.

A chance of showers after 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
