Jenkintown High School students bring Valentine fun to ACLAMO after-school children

Cupcakes and cards, buttons and bags, reading and games were all part of the fun when 31 students from Jenkintown High School's Spanish and French National Honor Society came to a Valentine’s Day party at in Norristown.

"It’s a good opportunity for all the students to interact with the kids from ACLAMO and do something fun with them,” said Richard Detwiler, a Spanish teacher who chaperoned the group, along with French teacher Edith Guay.

“Jenkintown is not far away, but this is another world that the students wouldn’t see otherwise,” said Detwiler. “And this is a volunteer project in which they actually do something with the kids, rather than just a fundraiser.”

The students set up six stations for decorating cupcakes, making cards, making pin-on buttons, decorating treat bags, games and reading.

The volunteers baked the cupcakes and brought all the icing, sprinkles and candies for decorating, as well as a button-maker with all the supplies, bags to decorate and books to read.
