There are many physical activities out there, but regular walking is the simplest, most positive change you can make to effectively improve your health. Research has shown that the benefits of walking for at least 30 minutes a day can help to reduce the risk of many prevalent diseases, enhance mental well-being, and maintain a healthy body weight. So many benefits for such a simple activity!
Beginning on Wednesday morning, July 17, Northland Library will sponsor a 10-week Wise Walk program, sponsored by the Allegheny County Library Association in collaboration with AARP and UPMC for Life. Those wishing to participate, are asked to meet at the library at 9:15 a.m. to register., They will receive a pedometer and t-shirt and, with a leader volunteer, take a walk on North Allegheny School grounds for 30 to 45 minutes, then return to the library for a snack and beverage. The walks will continue for 10 weeks each Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. (before the heat of the day.)
Some groups break into faster walkers and slower-paced walkers. No matter what your pace, the important thing is to enjoy walking with others on a regular basis. Log your steps when you return to the library and we’ll tally up the total for the group at the end of the 10-week period.
