4 Crashes Involving Deer Over Past 5 Days In Northampton Township: Police

Deer mating season is underway, and drivers in Northampton Township are paying the price.

Over the past five days, there have been four accidents involving deer reported to Northampton Township Police.

The first incident was reported Friday, Oct. 13. Officers responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Upper Holland Road and Chestnut Drive. One of the drivers told police the accident happened after a deer ran into the roadway. No injuries were reported, and there was minor damage to vehicle.

On Monday, Oct. 16 a driver reported that a deer ran onto Bustleton Pike and hit his vehicle. There were no injuries, and just minor damage to vehicle in that incident.

On Tuesday, Oct. 17, there were two accidents involving deer in Northampton. One happened on Buck Road, and involved a single car. There was also a two-car crash at Upper Holland Road and Florence Drive that happened after a deer ran into the road. No injuries reported in either of Tuesday's crashes.

Drivers in Northampton are not alone; the problem of deer in the roadway is widespread across the state. According to a newly released study, Pennsylvania drivers have a one in 63 chance of crashing into a deer while driving.

Since the risk more than doubles during mating season, which is October, November and December, now is a good time to remember these key safety tips.
