Memorial Day Weekend on New Hope & Ivyland Railroad: Old No. 40 Comes to Life
Photo gallery of the old steam engine and train at the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad.
Few things capture the feeling of being next to several tons of steam engine billowing smoke and hot steam and hearing the mighty whistle roar and clanging bell. The experience takes my imagination back to a bygone era, when America was entering the industrial age and men had to be tough as iron, shoveling coal into a hot fire and muscle got the job done.
This Memorial Day weekend the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad’s Old No. 40 was back in service taking visitors on a ride back through yesteryear. The old steam engine looked in fine shape as I felt the hot steam and watched through coal smoke as it moved by me, my body feeling each movement of the steam pistons.
