Want to be Healthy? Just Live Simply.

Your body might be complex, but taking care of it is not.

The Today Show has a segment every morning in which former anchor, Willard Scott, wishes those who have reached a 100 years or over a happy birthday. In that, the centurions share their secrets about what is keeping them alive and vital.

The answers are always simple and usually have something to do with appreciating anything and everything with a dash of hard work. Being happy and staying happy is what a long life entails.

If you know me, one thing I always do is look to my elders for advice and follow it closely. Along with amazing technological advance in medicine, there have been some pretty weird products to hit the shelves that sound amazing in theory but are unproven in action.

Recently, I saw an advertisement about crystals you sprinkle on your food resulting in a suppressed appetite which is supposed to make you thinner. Losing weight couldn't get any easier! Modern technology has invented something to help us be skinny. Now, what about being healthy? What are those crystals made of? Now, if those crystals do work, are you not going to exercise? That isn't healthy.

My point is that sometimes our society tries to oversimplify things, but the entire situation is actually a lot more complex. Always remember that simplicity is a marketing technique used to sell so many of these products. There is no easy way out. Life isn't meant to be convenient. Your health will allow for that. To stay healthy, live simply!
