Did You Look Up in the Sky Sunday Morning?

The eclipse was one of only two that will occur in 2013.

If you weren’t lucky enough to get an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning, you might have been lucky enough to catch something that some would say is even better.

A partial solar eclipse was visible for about half an hour just after sunrise on most of the East Coast Sunday morning. It was one of only two that will occur this year.

Sunday’s eclipse was a rare hybrid eclipse, according to USA Today, because depending on where you were in the world, you saw different things. People in Central Africa were treated to a total eclipse, in which the moon completely blocks the sun, while a few other parts of the Earth saw an annular eclipse, in which the moon leaves a “ring of fire” of the sun visible.

Our early morning view, if you were awake for it, was of a more-typical (but still pretty cool) partial eclipse.

The next total eclipse of the sun won’t be until Aug. 21, 2017.
