"If someone approaches you while you are outside or knocks at your door saying, 'We are in the area working on your neighbor's driveway and happen to have extra material. We can do your driveway at a discounted rate,' it's usually too good to be true," police said.

The police department has issued several solicitors permits to companies.

They include Green Star Exteriors, Donnelly Distribution, Jack & Jill Ice Cream, Mike Ice Cream Man, and Sam Hubi Ice Cream.

Police are also offering residents tips to avoid becoming a victim:

  • Do research
  • Check to make sure the company is legit.
  • Check with the Better Business Bureau
  • Sign a contract
  • Don't be bullied
  • Do not decide on the spot

Police ask residents to contact the police department at 215-357-8700 if anyone approaches with the offer and police will look into it further.
