Eleanor is 100!

Eleanor Satterfield of Churchville has been a member of the senior center for over 25 years. Eleanor was born in Philadelphia on May 21st 1919 and is the oldest surviving daughter of the late Gilford and Virgie Tidwell of Ardsley Pa. in Montgomery County. As a young girl she enjoyed singing in her church choir and visiting her grandmother and “Aunt Abby” on her mothers’ family farm in Delaware; where she would pick corn and tomatoes, and even try to milk the cow. Growing up in Ardsley she attended and graduated from Abington High school.

Following graduation, she worked in Philadelphia for a short time where met and married her husband Ray. They had three sons: Raymond, Gilford (Gil), and Dale. After living in Philadelphia for number of years they moved to Churchville in 1961. She was an active member of the community and enjoyed singing in the choir at the former Dotterer Baptist church and helped out occasionally at the Churchville elementary school. But most of all she loved being a mom to her three boys. And now, she really enjoys being with her sons and grandchildren: Eleanor has 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Eleanor joined the senior center in 1993 and has been an active member ever since. She loves her “boys” and grandchildren, loves living in Northampton, and loves playing bingo with the “girls” and guys at the senior center. And she looks forward to playing more in the coming year.
