Gas Leak Evacuates St. Katharine Drexel School

The Northampton Township Fire Department evacuated the school Wednesday and then held a fire prevention drill with students.

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —It started as a building fire report.

And then the fire call evolved into a gas leak. It ended with a fire prevention drill.

The Northampton Township Fire Department responded on Wednesday to a reported building fire at St. Katharine Drexel School.

Fire crews, though, identified a gas leak and immediately secured the building, evacuating the students. No one was injured.

With students in the school parking lot, the fire department took advantage of the situation. And with this being a school, they turned it into a lesson.

"We took the opportunity to do some fire prevention with the students and staff," the fire department said. "They did a great job evacuating the building today. Fire Drills pay off."
