Mail Thefts Prompt Police Warning To Stop Using Convenience Mailboxes
Northampton Township Police and the U.S. Postal Service seek a temporary ban. Richboro, Newtown and Southampton have reported incidents.

NORTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP, PA —The Northampton Township Police Department is warning residents to temporarily stop putting mail in U.S. Post Office convenience boxes after some recent mail thefts.
In what police said is becoming a popular crime, criminals are stealing mail from convenience boxes, seeking checks, and then altering them for large sums of money they can cash or deposit into fake accounts across the country.
Police and the Postal Service is advising residents to bring their mail inside a post office building and not using the convenience boxes for now.

As far as residential and business mailboxes, the Postal Service suggests never leaving mail in the box overnight. People who are going on vacation should also have their mail stopped until they return home.
Northampton and Newtown Township police are working with the Postal Service inspectors regarding the thefts that have recently occurred in Richboro, Newtown and Southampton post offices.
