New Car Scam, Bank Fraud Lead Northampton Township Police Report

Police investigate numerous accidents, including a hit and run and another deer collision.

RICHBORO, PA — The Northampton Township Police Department reported the following incidents between August 12 and 18$6

During this tour, patrol handled 24 alarm calls; 11 abandoned 911 calls; 29 medical emergencies; 10 bookings; 5 domestic disputes; 4 civil disputes; 51 traffic monitoring details and 15 crime prevention details.

  • Traffic Accident - Patrol responded to the area of Newtown-Richboro Road and Rock Way for a traffic accident. Unit 1 was traveling westbound on Newtown-Richboro Road when they struck the rear of unit 2. This caused unit 2 to make contact with unit 3 and unit 3 to make contact with unit 4, all of which were stopped in traffic. Tow was required.
  • Vehicle Lockout - Patrol responded to a parking lot in the 700 block of 2nd Street Pike for a vehicle lockout. Once on location, contact was made with the vehicle owner. Using lockout tools, patrol was able to gain entry.

August 13

  • Traffic Accident (deer involved) - Patrol heard a collision on Upper Holland Road and observed a vehicle with its hazard lights on. The vehicle had been driving on Upper Holland Road when it struck a deer that had entered onto the roadway. Information was gathered and tow was not required.
  • Fraud - A resident reported receiving a call from a spoof number indicating their bank was calling them. The bank requested information from the caller in order to assist them. The individual was able to gain access into the complainant’s account. The complainant realized this was a scam and contacted their bank directly. Information was gathered and the case was forwarded to detectives.

  • Traffic Accident (Hit and Run) - Patrol responded to the area of Hatboro Road and Sackettsford Road for a traffic accident. Unit 2 was stopped on Hatboro Road at the stop sign when it was struck from behind by unit 1. Unit 1 then did a quick U-turn and fled southbound on Hatboro Road. Information gathered.

August 15

  • Traffic Accident - Patrol responded to a parking lot in the 800 block of 2nd Street Pike for a traffic accident. Unit 1 was backing out from a parking space when they made contact with unit 2 which was stopped in the parking lot. Tow was not required.

August 16

  • Fraud - The complainant reported that an unknown person(s) gained access into their Amazon account and changed their shipping information to an out-of-state address. They had made several purchases, and the complainant had contacted Amazon to stop the charges and shipment. Information was gathered.

August 17

  • New Car Scam- A complainant reported receiving a letter and phone calls reporting that they had won money and a new car. The company reported to the complainant that they needed to just pay processing fees. The complainant found that this was a scam and reported it to police.

August 18

  • Fire - Patrol responded to the 1000 block of 2nd Street Pike for a fire. Once on location, a brush fire was located. Northampton Township Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire.
