Scouts, Officials to Help Locals Dispose of Old Flags
Northampton Township will hold a U.S. flag disposal ceremony tonight at 7 at the Municipal Park.
Not everyone knows how to properly dispose of an old U.S. flag, but the Northampton Township Veterans Advisory Committee is ready to help.
At 7 tonight at the Municipal Park on Hatboro Road, the committee, along with several local boy scout troops and township supervisors, will hold a flag disposal ceremony for worn out American flags.
"Many people are not aware that there is a proper way to dispose of the flag," said Pete Palestina, event coordinator. "The customary method is by way of a ceremonial flag burning conducted by proper protocol."

Boy scout troops #5, based in Churchville, and #240, based at , will help with the ceremony. Also, the color guard from the Marine Corps League's Patriot Detachment #1230 in Richboro will present the colors and sing the National Anthem.
Colonel Tom Manion, retired USMC, will give the keynote address and then the scouts will begin the burning ceremony.

Citizens are encouraged to bring their flags at any point during the event, or, if they cannot attend, they may drop them off ahead of time at any of several other locations including the and buildings, the , or any of the Northampton firehouses.
