U.S. Congressman From Bucks: Iran Must Not Go Nuclear

U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick is a strong supporter of a recent measure passed that would require Congressional approval of any deal with Iran.

Bucks County-based U.S. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA 8) said in a press release Thursday that he would “work tirelessly” to defeat any agreement with Iran that did not completely end the Islamic nation’s nuclear program.

“When it comes to a nuclear agreement with Iran no deal is better than a bad deal,” Fitzpatrick said by email. “And there is no better way to prevent a bad deal than to ensure Congress has the ability to review any agreement reached between the Iranian regime and the Obama administration.”

His words came after the recent passage of H.R. 1191 in the House of Representatives, which guarantees Congressional review of any nuclear agreement made by the White House and Iran

“Iran is the largest state sponsor of terror in the world, a hybrid of the radical, oppressive hijacking of religion and a totalitarian government inspired by conflict and domination,” Fitzpatrick said. “Because of this, any arrangement must prevent — not simply delay — a nuclear Iran. If any agreement presented to Congress fails to meet this standard I will work tirelessly to defeat it.”

Fitzpatrick is the chair of the bipartisan Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financingwhich says it reviews American policies aimed at cutting funding to terrorist groups.

Congressional Republicans and some Democrats on Twitter have criticized the Obama administration’s negotiations with Iran as not being aggressive enough.

The White House, meanwhile, is concerned that Congressional restrictions will make an Iran deal impossible, according to multiple press releases.
