Wawa Begins Reimbursing Richboro Gas Customers For Damaged Vehicles

More than a dozen drivers say their vehicles suffered mechanical damage after they filled up at the Richboro store on July 17 and 18.

RICHBORO, PA — Customers whose cars were damaged after fueling up at the Richboro Wawa on July 17 and 18 have begun receiving reimbursement checks from the convenience store chain, according to a Wawa spokesperson.

Richboro resident Joan Lenahan, who first reported the issue after her son's Jeep sustained $3,000 in damage, told the Bucks County Courier Times that she had received an email from the chain notifying her that a check was in transit.

After Lenahan posted her son's experience, more than a dozen other vehicle owners stepped forward saying they also had mechanical issues after filling up at the store on Second Street Pike. Those issues all centered on the engine operations, including fuel pumps, fuel injectors, spark plugs, cylinder misfires, and ignition coils.

In an email, Wawa spokesperson Lori Bruce said the company is "very sorry for this incident. Our team is taking care of every customer issue that is determined to have been caused by the issue."

Bruce said "every single customer who reached out to us has been contacted, and some of those impacted have already been reimbursed.

"We will continue to work directly with customers to quickly review and reimburse all of their expenses in the way that works best for them," said Bruce. "In addition, we will also work directly with customers to address any additional questions (i.e., any proof of payment is acceptable) that they may have."

According to Bruce, the impacted equipment at the store "was immediately shut down and is no longer in use. We continue to work with our fuel equipment manufacturer to investigate the issue. This was an isolated incident that affected a very limited number of customers. We remain committed to addressing any customer concerns and encourage them to reach out to us through our claims process."

Any customer whose vehicle had mechanical problems caused by fuel purchased at the Richboro Wawa on July 17 and 18 is encouraged to visit Wawa's fuel guarantee page for information and to submit a claim.
