Art Show at Perkiomen Valley School District

Student artists are celebrated at this annual district-wide event.

Hundreds of art projects, including paintings, drawings, pottery and graphic design projects were available for public view at the Perkiomen Valley School District Annual District Wide Art Show. The show, held May 18 and 19 in the PV High School gymnasium, featured work from students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

"The arts give all children the ability to creatively express themselves in unique and innovative ways," stated Superintendent Dr. Clifford Rogers.

Each elementary school taught art classes this school year around a theme. At Evergreen Elementary, students learned about the Wonders of the World, such as the Aurora Borealis, the Eiffel Tower and The Great Pyramids of Gaza. Schwenksville Elementary students studied the history and geography of America's National Parks. Skippack Elementary students focused on Pennsylvania museums and artists like Henry Chapman Mercer and Andy Warhol. At South Elementary, art classes focused on American art history. Highlighted artists included Eric Carle, Winslow Homer and Romare Bearden.

Middle and high school art classes at Perkiomen Valley allow students to continue to develop their skills in many mediums such as digital photography and abstract printmaking.

To complement the two-night Art Show, student musicians from the High School chamber ensemble, High School band and PV Middle School East jazz band and orchestra performed.  All proceeds from a bake sale in the lobby were donated to support future art shows in the schools.
