Perk Valley Raiders lock up 1st Round bye in Playoffs
The PV Raiders 14/15 y/o Legion baseball team closed out their regular season with 6 consecutive victories to secure a top seed in their upcoming PA State playoff bid.
The Perk Valley Raiders 14/15 y/o American Legion baseball team, managed by Ryan Hinkle with assistant coaches Kevin Grande and Tim Tyson, closed out their regular season with 6 consecutive victories to secure a top seed in their upcoming PA State playoff bid. Their first playoff game will be on Monday July 16 with time and location to be determined. Here is a recap of this past week’s games.
Tues July 10 - The PV Raiders defeat JP Mascaro, 9-2 to complete regular season with 6 game winning streak
JP Mascaro had a tough outing on Tuesday as the PV Raiders dominated in a 9-2 win in seven innings at Perk Valley HS. John Turner jump started the Raiders offense in the bottom of the second with a double down the left field line. Austin Lee followed with a single then Elijah Landes doubled as the Raiders went up early, 2-0. They put up three runs in the fourth on an RBI triple by Liam Grande and an RBI single by Adam Gaines. Grande racked up three RBIs on three hits including a monster, 340 foot out-of-the-park home run for the Raiders. Trent Tyson also doubled, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Krause started the game and went two innings allowing no earned runs. Lee (4-0) got the win for the Raiders and also went three for three at the plate. He pitched three shutout innings, struck out one, walked four, and gave up just one hit. Danny Quirk completed the game on the mound for the Raiders going two innings and allowing two earned runs.
Sun July 8 - The Raiders best Valley Forge in shootout, 15-8

The bats were busy at Valley Forge on Sunday night, and when the dust cleared the Raiders had a 15-8 win over Valley Forge in seven innings. Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 21 hits, including four extra base hits. The Raiders scored five runs in the fourth on a groundout by Tyler Krause, an RBI single by Jake Riehs, a steal of home by Liam Grande, an RBI single by Sean Morarity, and a steal of home by Austin Lee. Grande put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Raiders. He tripled in the second inning and doubled in the fourth inning. Gabe Kolb got the win in relief for the Raiders. Kolb pitched four innings and allowed two runs. The Raiders' Grande, Riehs, Adam Gaines and Morarity combined for nine hits and seven RBIs. The game's last lead went to the Raiders thanks to a first inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on a two-run single by Lee and two bases loaded walks. The Raiders piled on four more runs in the top of the second. A sacrifice fly scored Morarity to get the Raiders on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Krause's single, bringing home Kolb. After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the second, Valley Forge faced just a 8-5 deficit. A couple of singles set off a Valley Forge rally. The Raiders stopped the rally after Grande got the VF batter to fly out. One run in the bottom of the third helped Valley Forge close its deficit to 8-6. An error gave Valley Forge life. The Valley Forge threat came to an end when Grande finally got a fly out. One Valley Forge run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the sixth, making the score 13-7. A steal of home by Valley Forge fueled Valley Forge's comeback. Kolb ended the inning by striking out the final batter.
Sat July 7 - The Raiders cruise past Norritons on Tyson’s hot bat and stellar pitching, 14-4

In 102 degree heat and rubber match, the Raiders pounded the Norritons team on Saturday 14-4 at Perk Valley HS taking the season series two games to one. The Raiders scored six runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Tyler Krause, an error, an RBI single by Trent Tyson, a second error, and an RBI single by Sean Morarity who had three hits himself. Tyson was red hot at the plate racking up two RBIs on three hits including a triple. Krause and John Turner also contributed two hits each. Tyson (4-1) was doing double duty and got it done on the mound on the way to his fourth win. He allowed four runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out one, walked four and gave up seven hits.
Thurs July 5 – Offenses dominate as the Raiders outscore Norchester 15-9
Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair last Thursday as the Raiders outscored Norchester 15-9 in seven innings. The teams combined for 18 hits, including four extra base hits. The Raiders Gabe Kolb, Danny Quirk, and Sonny Rennard each had doubles. Trent Tyson and Kyle Dix each contributed two hits. Elijah Landes also contributed to the offensive slugfest w/ a single and 2 RBIs. The Raiders scored five runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Quirk, an error, a fielder's choice, and an RBI single by Tyson. Quirk racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Raiders. Austin Lee got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over four innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered three hits.
Post Season Playoffs
The PV Raiders now stand at 18-6-1 overall, received a BYE in the first round of the Montco American Legion 14/15 y/o playoffs and will play their first playoff game on Monday July 16, 2012. (time/location TBD)
