"To Die For" - Traditions of Mourning in America
A day of speakers, displays and educational information on death, dying and mourning in America. Amazing topic!

Join the W.S. Hancock Society on Saturday, August 1st as they revisit “To Die For” Traditions of Mourning in America at the New Goshenhoppen Church in East Greenville, PA. The day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m. at which time a gravestone rubbing demonstration will take place courtesy of the Gravestone Girls of Worcester, MA until 4:30 p.m.
Speakers for the day include: Brenda Sullivan of the Gravestone Girls on early New England headstones and customs, Juanita Leisch-Jensen, author of “Who Wore What” on Victorian funeral customs specializing in ladies mourning apparel. Claire Messimer, author of “Known by the Work of His Hands” on early PA German headstones. Eva Brothers, from Kirk and Nice funeral home and Bruce Stocking, Historian for the W.S. Hancock Society, on cemetery preservation, the good, the bad and the ugly..
Original funeral hearse on display along with cabinetmaker and stonecutter. Also, displays from various cemeteries, funeral homes and associated venue.
