Flag Day Celebration at Trappe Historical Society

On Sunday, June 10th, from 4:30 to 7:00 P.M. The Historical Society of Trappe, Collegeville, Perkiomen Valley will host its annual Flag Day celebration at St. Luke's UCC Church, with an exciting speaker and a delicious buffet dinner. Members, friends, and the community are invited and encouraged to attend.

A return visit by Dr. Nancy Loane, author of Following the Drum: Women at the Valley Forge Encampment, will be the highlight of the evening. Dr. Loane is a former seasonal park ranger at Valley Forge National Historical Park and a recognized authority on the women at the 1777-78 Valley Forge encampment. The book has been nominated for both the American Revolution Round Table of Philadelphia’s Thomas Fleming Award and the George Washington Book prize. It has been described as "not to be missed," "truly one of the great works on the Valley Forge encampment," and "thoroughly researched and a compelling read." An outstanding speaker, Dr. Loane has given over 150 presentations throughout the country (including one at the Library of Congress) on the women at the Valley Forge encampment. Her fascinating, fun, fact-filled talks bring the women at Valley Forge to life, as well as shed new light on the famous Valley Forge encampment itself.

Dr. Loane, who has participated in four archaeological digs at Valley Forge National Historical Park, is a board member of The Friends of Valley Forge Park and an honorary life-time member of the Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge. A former Pennsylvania Commonwealth Speaker, she has appeared on several radio shows and been featured on cable network shows, including Pennsylvania Cable Network and C-Span.
